Weekly Threads of Encouragement – He Knows My Name

Yesterday, I walked into my Sunday School Class after it had already started.   I had two of my granddaughters with me, and we were running a little behind.   Anyway, as I sat down in my class, a piece of paper and pen was handed to me with the instructions to answer a question.   The question was, Who am I?   Now, you  need to know that in our class we look at the different Christian song lyrics each week and study the Biblical basis and applications of these songs.   So, you might guess that our song yesterday was Who am I, an older song by Casting Crowns.   My first thought (and what i scribbled down), in answer to the question Who am I? was simply my name.   Who am I? —Jackie.    There are many things I could have wrote, but I think this simple answer sums up a lot in regards to Who am I to the Lord.     As we discussed in our class, I am special, I am loved and cared for by the Lord of all the Earth.  Not because of who I am, but because of what all He has done for me, and who He is.  He knows and calls me by my name.   That means He cares about me, He loves me, He forgives me, and He’s my Friend.  He knows the details of my life, and knows my every thought.   It’s always interesting to see how God confirms the things we study in our Sunday School Class each week.   Just about every Sunday, either in the Worship Service, or in some way this confirmation happens.   Last night this happened as I was reading in Exodus 33 where God told Moses …”I know you by name, and you have also found favor with me.”  (Exodus 33:12b)   Friends, God knows you by name also.   He wants to have an intimate relationship with each one of us.   Moses’ reply was “please teach me your ways, and I will know you, so that I may find favor with you.” (Exodus 33:13b).  My prayer is that I would be willing for Him to teach me His ways,  and that you would be also!   I will leave you with the lyrics of another song written by Tommy Walker that’s one of my favorites…

He Knows My Name

I have a Maker
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in His hands

He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And hears me when I call

I have a Father
He calls me His own
He’ll never leave me
No matter where I go

He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And hears me when I call

He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And hears me when I call

He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And hears me when I call
He hears me when I call
